The ranch was started by a family of three women (who can't stop wearing flip flops even on the farm). Inspired to help save both people and animals, they created a safe environment for both. The ranch is dedicated to conserving rare domestic animals while also helping people to reconnect: with themselves, their community and nature. We use endangered animal to help endangered people who endangered animals.
Flip Flop Ranch has been a working farm since the fields were first cleared, growing hay, pigs and ostriches.
We have continued the tradition of growing hay and pasture for our animals and planting a garden full of produce for ourselves, our friends, and family. We harvest and pick throughout the summer and fall. If you stay with us during that time, you may reap your own rewards in fresh fruits, jams and cider!
In addition to the flora on our farm, our domestic fauna includes rare breeds of chickens (farm-fresh eggs for your breakfast), endangered cotton patch geese, horses, peacocks, turkeys, ducks, goats (fresh milk), pigs, cows, and the requisite dogs and cats. We are in the business of selling our pasture-raised Heritage turkeys and grass-fed products directly to local customers. Depending on the time of year, most of these animals range freely around the property.
Endangered People
The ranch offers a residential program for young adults 18-26 who are facing problems in their lives. Working on a ranch and with our experienced therapists gives them a new hope for their future.
We also often have visits from victims of domestic violence who benefit from the therapeutic environment of the ranch.
Endangered Livestock
Enormous media attention is given to vanishing wildlife, but few know that many old farm breeds are endangered. We aim to produce genetically healthy animals to exhibit in order to promote them and educate the public.
